Bloops from my 1985 wtvr news videographer days
That looks like a nice day
Nobody on their phones
This is blowing my mind. So much has changed in 24 years.
Hey Barry your shirt is 5 sizes too big. Scott too. Anyway it's amazing Ken was so dominant back then with such an average putt. The level of competition was non-existent because there was zero money unless you were top 2 or 3 in the world.
SHOUT OUT to juliana korver for beating almost half of the men's field.
It's amazing how bad they throw on the first hole! Two of them hit the trees on the left. Ken got lucky with a good roll off the tree.
obvious from Hole #1 that practicing low "straight" tunnel shots is imperative in disc golf...that's why that's the shot I practice by far the most
And to think that 5 years after this tournament was played... Gannon Buhr was born. Crazy.
Wait how old is Gannon?

These players all look like they’re playing on their lunch breaks from their office jobs where they sell insurance from cubicles
Where was this?
Scott throwing 500 back then with older discs and 22 years ago, this is a reflection of the competition Kenny had to compete with in these days!!!
A 450-500 sidearm is rare still. Doing it in 2000 is incredible.
Dam, a commercial with the Legend Dale. ITs so weird watching old stuff.
Would be awsome if some of these players could take the time and speak about what they think the sport has come to, and be around for the new players.
We will. Be patient
Wish more of this and other 1900s video available
thanks for the footage!!
16:00 what a babe
Imagine guys from 2021 time traveling back then and throwing 700ft backhands and 400 foot forehands lol.
@@spikehyzer2323 look up David Wiggins getting on the green in 2 throws on a 1280 hole last week lol
@@spikehyzer2323 it wasn’t anything close 30+ mph winds for Wiggins last week. Who cares it was 85 and humid. My comment was more about the wow factor (eagles drive at the match play last year) and not what the average pro on tour throws. Also Ezra aderhold threw over 600 for a distance competition last year. Want to say it was 630. I think this is Scott stokleys burner
@@spikehyzer2323 last year eagles drive at match play was longer than 580. gg also had a few boms over 600. You can find them. And you also said distance competition at first and now you’re saying a tournament. It is 100% without a doubt players are better today than any other time. The data and every other way to measure this is clear. The technology has gotten “better” sure. But discs like the destroyer has been out for 15+ years.
@@HaikesXO I wouldnt say the players today are "better" but the pool of possible players is just so much bigger than it was 20 years ago. Literally 4x more active players, and way more traveling pros. Stokely is still competing at a high level in his 50s vs all these young cats, and while he isnt as consistantly good, hes still in the top half of the field in nearly any pro event he is at. I dont see many of the old guard playing anymore to even compete, Climo, russel, etc, but to score high 20 yrs ago took alot more skill than it does today. I mean I am a first year player, and I am able to come close to scratch golf. I played ball golf for years, and never got even close there. The discs now are far superior. I have older discs from the 80s I toss around in the backyard, and the new stuff is so much better and more consistent its not even close.
They'd feel right at home with Stokely.
Who hu not hunh huh, RED SHIR MICK!
I'm embarrassed for the lack of quality play compared to today. Respect to those who came before but damn.
@@spikehyzer2323 yeah. I completely disagree. You also just said you were better than climo lol
@@spikehyzer2323 you talk a lot.
@@Nnubbs you literally just said your embarrassed of climo's play..... so is he good or bad? Regardless of this guys claim, you seem to not have anything good to say. I would just keep it to yourself next time if you don't understand the context and tools used.
@@TheRadbrian lol what I said was that a random dude said he could beat climo. Compared to today’s lineups, the field was not anywhere near the level. As I already said I have respect for them but put climo in today’s game or move some of this era’s players back and climo isn’t climo. Try harder next time you try to twist my words.
I watched scott video giving tips on side arm and im watching this like man hes actually pretty solid all around
And the legend of measuring OB by dangling a set of keys was born 47:10
Gotta love the graphic on hole 1 and current score of 0 for the round. Who woulda known?
Some FarrenWarboys commentary.
Scott was ahead of his time with the forehand!! Gotta put some respect on his name!!
I cant believe how many competitors then used rollers as their distance drive! I guess they didnt have disks back then with high distance ratings or double break ability.
9-speed discs...maybe.
Y yo en pensando a jugar llevo 5 meses de jugar este deporte muy emocionante 🐦👍🤣🦅🌀And in thinking about playing, I have been playing this very exciting sport for 5 months.
Amazing to contemplate how much the sport has evolved in just 20 years. The low, almost air-bounced releases, the rarity of the forehand, and the fact that Winthrop was once considered a good course...
Holy Cow Stokely's almost eagle at 1:02 is electric.
I think the modern boys have improved dramatically on the skills, and JomezPro, et al have a superior product. But i remember JomezPro from 6 years ago... massive learning curve. If Climo understood the flight stuff like the new kids, it would be interesting
33:00 someone gets hit with disc, that probably would have been roller too
At 21:00 his shot was never even close to hitting land... I think it was super clear
Sponsored by Coca-Cola.... lol
It's no jomez but I'll take our poor man Nate sexton and our rag-tag big jerm!
Amazing to contemplate how much the sport has evolved in just 20 years. The low, almost air-bounced releases, the rarity of the forehand, and the fact that Winthrop was once considered a good course...
Amazing historic footage! Incredible to think that women couldn't even vote when this took place!
crazy!
Lmao
Respect to the OGs but I probably wouldn’t have gotten into disc golf if someone showed me this! Lol all love
20 years makes a difference.
20 years ago only one guy on the card is throwing sidearm and they are all crooning over how good he is at it 🤣
Wow. You don't know that Scott Stokeley held the world distance record in sidearm for 20 years? He also had the world distance record in backhand at the same time. One guy?
@@hyzercreek lol another terrible take.
He had and still has a great sidearm even when compared to modern players.
You're welcome your ancestors paved the road to disc golf hell for you, so you could lazily skip your way down it. And are you a world champion? Asking for someone I know....
Coca-Cola sponsorship back in 2000. That is pretty cool.
Rip dale erhart.
They should do spoof commentary on this :)
I just watch Barry play a NC tournament recently so it was really cool seeing him play 20 years ago too!
Greenville?
Just got my Barry-signed Leopard in the mail today, along with a 2018 Barsby-signed Aviar.
53:14 Homie texting and walking

This commentary is surprisingly good...
Most superb!
that's because it does not feature Nate Doss
Agreed. It’s engaging.
oh, I was thinking it was rather boring. I love the commenters that we have now. These guys here seem to talk about the obvious. But to each his own
These commentators are way better than Jamie Thomas /Nate Doss.
nate doss sucks. I think we all watch jomez at this point to avoid him
Avery Jenkins sighting at 56:45! Man, anybody watching this would KNOW that the sport would blow up. It's just a matter of time. Great video
Nice!
I guess the fashion in 2000 was wearing clothes that don't remotely fit
I graduated in 2002 and can still fit in clothes from high school bc they were all so damn big
